The Lenovo ThinkBook 13s-IML (model 20RR) is a 13.3" ultrabook with a Comet Lake-U processor (e.g. Intel Core i5-10210U), Intel UHD Graphics, and an Intel 400 Series Chipset Family platform (CNVi Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, SOF-based audio).
Firmware
fwupd supports this device: the system firmware (UEFI, LENOVO 20RR) is updatable via capsule-on-disk (UEFI ESRT), as reported by fwupdmgr get-devices.
Microphone
The internal digital microphone (DMIC) is detected by the SOF driver but produces no audio signal in any application, even though ALSA/PipeWire report it as unmuted with normal gain. This is caused by the DMIC being wired to the second PDM bus (PDM1) while the default sof-hda-generic-2ch.tplg topology assumes PDM0. The same root cause is tracked upstream for related Comet Lake-U Lenovo/HP models as thesofproject/linux#2460 (label DMIC-PDM1).
Confirm the diagnosis:
# journalctl -k -b --grep="loading topology"
If this reports sof-hda-generic-2ch.tplg (not -pdm1), force the alternate topology already shipped in sof-firmware:
/etc/modprobe.d/sof-mic-fix.conf
options snd_sof tplg_filename=sof-hda-generic-2ch-pdm1.tplg
A reboot is required for the new topology to load. Afterwards the journal should report loading sof-hda-generic-2ch-pdm1.tplg, and the microphone works normally.
