IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

The scene in Star Trek: First Contact where the Borg ship opens the Temporal
rift and flies through was the inspiration for this picture. I thought it
would be cooler if the whole cube was flying through, and not just the "escape
sphere".

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

I started out building the Borg cube with little boxes arranged as 5 to a row,
five rows to a wall, 5 walls. I did this to give the illusion of the cube not
being entirely solid (you can see through or into the Borg ships in all of the
episodes that include Borg encounters). Then, I built the grid that goes
around the outside, literally one cylinder at a time. Each grid panel is 4
cylinders and one sphere, then they're arranged over the individual pieces of
the main ship. The temporal wake is a cylinder with my own "temporal" pigment
set. The star field is also my own creation. Most of the star fields I have
seen are too busy, bright, or crowded, so I built my own. If you want to see
code I wrote for the Borg cube, the grid, the star field, or the temporal wake
(or all of it), drop me an e-mail at jgoeson@msn.com, and I'll be glad to
e-mail the zip of the code to you.
