IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

This is based on the gym at Franktown Elementary School in Franktwon,
Colorado.
My dad is the gym teacher there, so I spent a lot of time playing in that gym
while growing
up. There are a few notable differences, however. The real basketball hoop is
mounted on
the wall, not free standing. The real floor is rubberized, not hardwood. You
can read the
real EXIT sign. And, finally, there is a climbing structure on the real wall
between the
basket and the door. But my goal was more the accurate hardwood floor than the
accurate
representation of the gym.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

The most important thing I did to make this scene was to write a C++
program that
would generate POV code (I created a .inc file). It did the randomizing of the
patterns in
the floor. Making it shiny was quite a challenge, but I think it looks decent.
The
basketball was the next challenge, because I wanted the lines to be absolutely
correct. The
basket was simple cylinder, sphere, and box combination, except for the
superellipsoid foam
pad around the glass. The net was interesting, as you can see from the source
code. There
are 15 lights in this gym, so when you render it you will want to comment some
out and bump
up the multiplier on the statement "color White*.1}" appropriately.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Unzip my files into one directory, the render needs all three. This
text file is
included in the zip.
