IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

The lighthouse on the island Pharos is one of the most mysterious of the
seven wonders, even though
it remained standing until sometime in the early 14th century. There are many
written accounts about the
lighthouse (the first ever in the world), but none with detailed descriptions.
Recently, (1993+) there
have been extensive excavations, with the blessing of the Egyptian gov't, which
have uncovered many
interesting facts about the lighthouse. The lighthouse was also the tallest
building in the world
until the eraction of the Effiel tower - estimates have it standing in the
300-400m range.
It is not sure how the light was projected (though it is written that the light
could been
seen 30+miles away). In my image I have a polished brass "mirror" reflecting
fire light. It is unlikely
that it was a wood fire, because of the scarcity of wood - and the remenants of
a hydraulic system
has been discovered and described - my theory is that it was an oil fire.
Also the are many descriptions of a VERY large statue sitting on top of the
lighthouse - unfortunately
there is disagreement as to who the statue represented and even if there was one
or two statues. So
the statue really is that big on purpose. I designed a rudimentary system to
funnel off the heat and fumes
which has never been described or found. I feel that has to be there though
otherwise the constant heat
would crack the roof and statue.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

Nothing fancy here, this is simple stuff to make the lighthouse and boat -
the "spotlight" from the top
of the lighhouse is a cone with transperancy, ambient and filter values. I
really tried using
halo and fog and atmosphere, all to no avail.
